This week in reading, we explored text features of nonfiction books.  The students made connections to help them understand nonfiction books such as A Day With A Doctor and A Day With A Mail Carrier.
The new vocabulary words that came from these stories were: healthy, prevent, load & important.  The new popcorn words we learned were soon, went, & come.  Our phonemic awareness program focused on l- blends such as bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl.  We also worked on short i word families such as -ip & -ing.  The students are writing in journals and learning to check their work for beginning with a capital letter, ending punctuation, spaces between words, neatness and if the writing makes sense.  In math we are working on addition and subtraction.  We will solve problems within 10 and students are expected to show fluency with facts within 5.
