This week we read Leprechaun stories.  We compared and contrasted Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato and The Luckiest Leprechaun.  Our new popcorn words were: do, all, there.  The word family we worked on was -in.  The students have been working so hard reading in guided reading groups with me during Daily Five time.  You can see how proud they are when they recognize popcorn words and figure out unfamiliar words.  They are also becoming such good writers!  They are working on their second "story" and will be bringing their first one home soon.  They love to share them with the class. Our math lessons and centers focused on measurement, sorting and addition.  To follow through at home, you can start working on memorizing math facts to build fluency.  In kindergarten we will work on problems up to the sum of 10, but they will have to show fluency with facts to the sum of 5.

This week we talked about March weather and how the month comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  We read the story, Everything Spring, and talked out vocabulary words such as: fawn, fuzzy, meadow, huddle, & stream.  Our popcorn words this week were: soon, went, come. In math we worked on measurement and compared objects using words such as: longer, shorter, taller, heavier, lighter, etc. We also sorted objects by color and shape.

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss!  We read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The Cat in the Hat, Wacky Wednesday, Fox in Socks, and Green Eggs and Ham.  We had so much fun reading his silly stories.  The students also were able to dress Wacky, wear mismatched socks, wear a favorite hat, and wear green.  Our new popcorn words were: this, that, new. Our Dr. Seuss math included sorting, counting and graphing colored goldfish (thank you to the parents that donated goldfish), playing green eggs and ham tic-tac-toe, and making an addition problem with red and blue fish.  It was a fun week!
