This week in reading, the comprehension focus was: Students explore text features of expository nonfiction.  Students also identified what they learned from a nonfiction book and used wondering to help them understand the book.  The vocabulary words they learned were: prey, object, unusual & fact. The popcorn words we learned were: eat, please, want, with.  In our phonemic awareness program, we have been working with s blends such as st, sc, sk, sm, sn, sl, sw and sp.  We also reviewed short e word families such as -ed, -en, -et, -est, -ell.  In math we have been working on counting by 5's, graphing, and subtraction.  Kindergarten students should demonstrate fluency with subtraction facts within 5.  First, we focused on -0, then moved on to -1.  Next week we will use the strategies we have learned to solve -2 problems.  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction for the rest of the year.  Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!
