In reading this week, the students worked on the strategy: wondering. We practiced wondering through stories such as, Brave Bear.
The new vocabulary words this week include doubtful, confident, courageous & persistent. The sounds we worked on in Jolly Phonics were ou & oi. We discovered that ow and oy make those sounds also. The popcorn words we learned this week were get, help & now. Continue to review all of the popcorn words at home so the students know them quickly by sight.  In math we have been working on 2dand 3d shapes such as the circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, sphere, cube, cone & cylinder. The kids have been so excited to find these shapes at home and at school!  Have a great weekend!

The reading strategy the students learned this week was visualizing.  They practiced making pictures in their minds and discussing what they saw with a partner.  The new vocabulary words they learned were: amusing, upset, grin & stuck.  In Jolly Phonics we learned the sounds ng, & th.  Our new popcorn words were he, she & be.  In handwriting we are working on the magic c letters a, d & g.  In math we have been learning about 2d (flat) shapes.  The students have been learning about sides and corners and how to create shapes by using these flat shapes.  Everyone completed their Maps and Aims Web testing and also had hearing screening here at school.  The weather was warm enough one day this week to go outside for recess.  Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, gloves, boots and snow pants when needed.  Have a great weekend!
